A video clip almost always has a few dead seconds at the start — fumbling to hit record — or a shaky ending after the moment’s already over. Trimming that off before you send the clip usually means installing a video editor just for one cut. Grabio’s “Trim video” tool does the same job from your iPhone’s share sheet in two taps, using Apple’s own trim interface, on-device and free.

## Why you don’t need an app just to trim a clip

Most video editor apps are built for color grading, transitions, and multi-clip timelines — overkill when you just need to cut three seconds off the front of a clip before texting it. They also want an account, an in-app purchase to remove a watermark, or a chunk of storage on your phone. Trimming is a single, well-defined action, and iOS already has a native trim tool built in — it’s just buried a few taps deep inside the Photos app, and it doesn’t work at all on a video sitting in Files or shared from another app.

## How to trim a video on iPhone with Grabio

- Add Grabio to your iPhone once — it’s a free Apple Shortcut. [Get the free Shortcut here](https://grabio.adityaarsharma.com/get-shortcut) and it’s ready in a few seconds.
- Open the video — in Photos, Files, or wherever it’s sitting — and tap the Share button.
- Scroll down the share sheet and tap **Grabio**.
- Tap **Trim video** from the Grabio menu.
- Apple’s own trim screen opens. Drag the start and end handles to set the new in and out points, then confirm.
- You’ll see “✓ Done — saved to your Photos.” — the trimmed clip is saved as a new video in your Photos library.

## Is it private and free on iPhone?

Grabio’s trim tool runs Apple’s native trimVideo action directly on your phone — the video is never uploaded anywhere, so it works in airplane mode or with no signal at all. It’s 100% free forever: no account, no login, no subscription, and no App Store app to install.

## Trimming Video on iPhone: FAQ

### Can I trim a video that’s in Files, not just Photos?

Yes. Grabio appears in the share sheet from Files, Messages, or any app that can share a video — it isn’t limited to the Photos app the way the built-in Photos editor is.

### Does trimming lose quality?

No. The trim only cuts frames from the start and/or end of the clip — it doesn’t re-encode or compress the footage in between, so the parts you keep look exactly like the original.

### Does this change or delete my original video?

No. The trimmed result saves as a separate, new video in Photos. Your original clip stays untouched, so you can always go back to the full-length version.
